Calvet bank:
The architect Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926), the most representative of Catalan Modernism, designed the furniture (stool, chair, mirror and bench) for his first work: The Calvet house at Casp street, which was awarded as the best building in Barcelona in 1900 by the town hall.Calvet's family was part of the new bourgeoisie of the epoch enriched by textile manufacturing. The whole was carved in oak, with reliefs and was manufactured by the workshop Casas i Bardés. The Calvet bench dominated the meeting room on the ground floor. It features with 3 floral motives aligned horizontally, carved in the back, surrounded by 3 motives forming a triangle. Currently you can admire these pieces at the Gaudi Museum, in Guell Park. |
